About the park

Since 1979, the Amateur Sports Park aka SPNY (Sports Park of New York) has organized and hosted amateur sports events for Rochester area adult athletes. This 38+ acre multi-sports facility is conveniently located at 525 Ballantyne Road in Chili, New York, between the Greater Rochester International Airport and RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology).

Softball, flag football, sand volleyball, and kickball leagues, combined with on-site concessions and beer garden, a 900-square-foot tented pavilion for relaxing, live musical entertainment, and an atmosphere of fun draw thousands of guests each year. Professionally-trained officials, on-site league administrator, friendly staff, and daily field maintenance help make SPNY a favorite destination for adults who enjoy playing recreational sports.

The founder and long-time owner announced his retirement at the end of the 2007 season and Amateur Sports Incorporated (ASI), a New York corporation formed by Sean and Colette Rook, purchased the park on January 15th, 2008. The Rooks - aptly named owners of an amateur sports park! - look forward to keeping true to SPNY's fun-loving appeal while implementing plans for renovation and expansion to make SPNY a family-friendly sports park for all!

About the Rooks

Sean was born and raised in Rochester, New York as his bride, Colette, was born and raised on the other side of the continent, in Helena, Montana (same weather - different state!)

Their paths crossed in college at a leadership conference and it was, quite literally, love at first sight! Within six months they were married and, although their extended family optimistically gave their marriage one year, they have now been happily married for nearly 12 years!

Sean is apparently intent on over-populating the world while Colette, on the other hand, has other ideas at this point! Their four beautiful children, ages 8, 5, 3, and 1, are super-excited about the new business! The older of the two are eagerly looking forward to participating in SPNY's NEW Summer Youth Camp - Sport Zone - this year!
